Leptinella

Are extremely low alpines used as a ground-cover in rock gardens, between sidewalk cracks, fern grove in a faery gardens, perfect for mini landscape planters, and railroad gardening.

Description:     As of all Leptinella the have fine fern like foliage. This variety will be very black with more sun and bicolor green with black tips in part shade to shade areas.

Apply a surface application of an all around garden fertilizer in late fall to help plants survive the winter. Add another in early spring while plants are dormant and once more about six weeks into the growing season.

Description:     Large dramatic specimen plant used as a celery substitute in pickling, salad dressings, stir fries, stews and roasts. The Greeks and Romans chewed lovage seeds to aid digestion and legend tells of seeds put into potion to conjure up love spells, an infusion of lovage seeds is said to erase freckles and a lovage herb bath is said to make you more beautiful.

                                         LOVAGE SOUP
4 T. olive oil
4 slices stale bread
3 oz butter
1 bunch lovage leaves chopped
1 clove garlic, chopped
2 pints chicken stock
½ cup chopped parsley
2 whole eggs and 1 yolk
Pour the olive oil over the bread and grill until brown. Sweat the lovage, garlic and parsley in butter until wilted. Pour on the stock and simmer for 2 minutes. Beat the eggs with salt and pepper. Place one slice of bread in each warmed bowl. Bring the soup to the boil and slowly pour in the egg, stirring gently to separate the egg into strands. Serve over the grilled bread.

Description: Named after the Egyptian god Horus, an incense was made and burned in rituals to honor him. Used in sachets to protect against sorcery and to break magic spells. Medicinally used as a cough and sore throat medicine and as a base for candies. Externally used to help speed the healing of wounds. Large doses of this herb can result in a laxative effect and an irregular heartbeat.

Description: Flavorful apple-scented blossoms is a wonderful herb tea, soothing in the bath, penetrating as a facial and brightens blond hair. Harvest flowers by spreading fingers and gently pulling up being careful not to pull plants out of the ground. Dry on screens and package in a tightly sealed containers. This is an annual but readily re-seeds every year.

Description: Yellow and green variegated foliage in spring changing to a true green. Leaves impart a lemon flavor to soups, salads, fish, fruit dishes, poultry and makes an excellent tea having a mild sedative effect and was used as a mild form of Valium in the mid-seventeenth century. Lemon Balm seems to inhibit bacteria and virus’ growth. Fresh leaves were once used to polish wood furniture by grabbing a bunch of leaves and rubbing into the wood. Beekeepers would rub the inside of their hive to entice a new swarm of bees to stay. Although the flowers attract honeybees, they repel certain insects.  Have a few bunches around the next time you are having a picnic.
